Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission)
is a national campaign initiated by the Government of India, aiming to clean the streets, roads, and infrastructure of India’s cities, towns, and rural areas. Launched on October 2, 2014, the campaign’s main objective is to achieve a “Clean India” by the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in 2019
SCPUC organised a ‘Shramadaan’ in an association with NSS and NCC units. Capt.Mahabaleshwar Tunga inaugurated the event, NSS Co- Ordinator Mr. Arjun GK, NCC Co- Ordinator Capt.Peerya Naik,Syed Imranulla, were present in the Shramdaan activity.
One of the primary goals was to eliminate open defecation by constructing household and public toilets. The mission emphasized the importance of sanitation and aimed to provide proper facilities for all citizens.
The campaign also focuses on the proper management of municipal solid waste, including door-to-door collection, segregation of waste at the source, and the establishment of processing and disposal facilities.
The mission aims to bring about a behavioral change in people regarding sanitation practices and to encourage the use of toilets. It promotes awareness through various campaigns and educational programs.
Since its launch, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has made significant progress in improving sanitation facilities, reducing open defecation, and raising awareness about hygiene. It has led to the construction of millions of toilets and the declaration of many cities and villages as “open defecation-free.
Despite the achievements, challenges remain in ensuring the sustainability of the facilities provided, maintaining cleanliness, and continuing to change public attitudes towards sanitation.
The campaign has been a significant step towards creating a cleaner and healthier India, aligning with the broader goal of improving the quality of life for all citizens.
